Are you a cat lover? If so, you might want to know some things about your feline friend you never knew.
A purring cat doesn’t always mean it’s happy. Cats also purr if they’re in pain.

A purring cat
Cats have more than one hundred vocal sounds, while dogs only have about ten. Their purring rate is an astounding 26 cycles per second which can be compared to a diesel engine idling.
French researchers claim that the domestic cat has a vocal range of as many as sixty notes, from a gentle purr to growls of varying intensity to the howl that sometimes annoys the neighbors.
The cat’s skeleton is quite close to that of the human, but its lack of a shoulder blade allows freedom of movement of the foreleg, which can be turned in almost any direction and a cat also has around 290 bones and 517 separate muscles.
A cat’s nose is like its fingerprint. No two cat’s noses are the same. They have their own unique pattern.
Cats give love bites. This can happen when you are petting them, rubbing their stomach, etc. These love bites are not done out of anger; that is their way of telling you they are enjoying the attention.

Cats that have short hair tend to be leaner and more active, whereas cats with longer hair tend to be less active and heavier.
Proailurus is the first known cat and existed more than twelve million years ago.
A cat cannot taste sweet things. This is due to the lack of a sweet receptor gene in the makeup of the cat.
On a cat’s back, there are roughly 60,000 hairs per square inch. On the underside of the cat, there are double those amounts per square inch!
A cat responds the best with words ending in the long “e” sound. An example of this would be “sandy”.
A cat calms down when you cover its face; you can do this by placing your hands over the forehead and eyes, or, allow your cat to bury their face into something.

A cat will generally not respond as well to a male as they do a female. This is due in large part to the frequency of their voice.
Cat allergies are not seen with every cat. If a person is allergic to one particular cat, they may not be allergic to another. There is no real way to pinpoint which cats cause allergic reactions in certain people.
Cats are known for periodically delivering small animals to their owners. There are theories on this behavior but the true explanation is unknown. One common theory is that the cat has adopted the human into their social structure and is sharing excess food.
If a cat brings you a dead rodent such as a mouse or another oddity such as a frog or lizard, they are giving you a present. This shows your cat loves you, although you might be a little shocked.
Put a tiny bit of vegetable oil in your cats dry food in order to make their coat shine and help with pesky hair balls.
In as little as two weeks, depending on the cat and their cooperation, they can be trained to use the toilet instead of a litter box. This not only saves money for litter but also time from cleaning the litter box.

Cats actually solve problems and form conclusions. If a cat wants something, they will get it. This stubbornness and curiosity is a form of intelligence that cats have.
A cat can absorb chemicals though their paws. This means you should not allow your cat to walk on any surfaces that have just been cleaned and are still wet, puddles of chemicals, etc.

Taurine helps prevent blindness in cats. Make sure that the food you are feeding your cat has this ingredient in it.
A cat that has just given birth consumes their kitten’s bodily waste until they start on solid food. The mother cat does this to eliminate any trace of odors that a predator might pick up on.

Most of the time you will never be able to tell a cat is sick unless you pay attention closely to habits such as eating, drinking, etc. Unless a cat is physically sick, many terminal illnesses go unnoticed for years in cats.
Diabetes can happen in cats. This disease will usually be present after the cat turns seven. First signs of diabetes will be increased eating, drinking and urination along with weight loss.
The coloring on cats is based from red and black. Each cat will have a variation of one or both of these colors. The only exception is when you have a gene that masks the color. This produces a white cat, or spotty cats.
You can tell your cat is overweight when you cannot feel the ribs when you pick the cat up.

A cat’s teeth, from newborn kitten to the largest lion, are the most awesome weapons in the mammal kingdom. They are very sharp and finely serrated like a knife. The curved, pointed canines are set in the cat’s jaw so that the molars fit together with their sides intact, like a pair of scissors, rather than tooth to tooth, as is the case with humans and most other mammals.
Both female and male cats reach puberty at approximately six months of age. Males will act more territorial, disappear for days and “spray” their scent. Females will lower themselves close to the ground and meow as if in pain when they go into heat.
Domestic cats spend about 70% of their day sleeping and 15% of the day grooming. Non-pedigree cats generally liver longer than pedigree cats. Cats were domesticated about 3,000 B.C. in Egypt.

A cat has four rows of whiskers.
The top two rows of a cat’s whiskers can move independently of the lower two rows. This allows maximum perception of the cat’s immediate surroundings.
A cat uses its whiskers to determine if a space is too small to squeeze through. The whiskers act as feelers or antennae, helping the animal to judge the precise width of any passage.

The Dark Side of Chocolate October 19, 2009

When I was a young child, candies and chocolates are on the top of my favorite things to eat. At present, even in my mid-20’s, there are times I still give in to my sweet tooth. After all, who doesn’t like chocolate?
Many people believe that eating too much chocolate can make one fat and unhealthy. I admit that I once strongly believed that chocolate’s only purpose is to satisfy our cravings for sweets and can only make us feel happy for a certain period of time (Eating chocolate releases endorphins and serotonin which promote feelings of happiness).

Cocoa, the main ingredient of chocolate
Even with the knowledge of the bad effects of eating chocolate, many people still love eating this stuff, including my husband, for example. My husband loves eating chocolate. He does not care whether it is locally made or imported. As long as he likes the taste, he will eat it happily.
I have most of the times warned him that eating too much chocolate might affect his health, particularly his high blood pressure.
However, upon reading on it through the internet, I have learned that eating more chocolate might be actually good for his health.
Before starting to gobble up a piece of chocolate, you should know that only dark chocolate is the only chocolate that can lower a person’s blood pressure. Therefore, a person with high blood pressure (or hypertension) such as my husband can benefit from eating dark chocolate, with moderation, of course. The New York Times stated that dark chocolate is nearly as effective at decreasing blood pressure as regular antihypertensive drugs.

“Why not eat milk chocolate or white chocolate?”
Milk chocolate or white chocolate does not lower blood pressure and because of the fact that it mostly contains artificial sweeteners, contains less cocoa, and has more calories than dark chocolate.

Hershey's Dark Chocolate
“What if I would eat dark chocolate and then drink milk afterwards?”
Studies indicate that milk may interfere with absorption of endorphins and serotonin (found in dark chocolate). Therefore, eating dark chocolate and drinking milk afterwards can only lead to sudden weight gain.
With this new information about chocolate, I could now rest my fears about my husband’s love for eating chocolate as it helps his blood pressure remain normal; however, he just has to compensate for eating less of other foods to prevent him from getting fat.
The Good and Bad Sides of a Stay-at-Home Worker October 15, 2009

“After college, what will you do?”
“I will try to find work, of course, and keep it.” That’s what most of us would answer, but the real question is, would you be lucky enough to get hired? True, thousands to millions of 4th year college students a year hope that they would land a job immediately as soon as they graduated. Sadly, most of them go unemployed. I, for one, was not spared of that harsh truth.
I graduated on the year 2005, earned a degree of BS in Biology at Saint Louis University, Baguio City. After graduating, that time was the boom of the nursing profession: Many countries are in need of nurses and due to that matter, even doctors are taking up units in nursing to get qualified as nurses, work abroad, and earn big bucks. My mom wanted me to study nursing for that same reason (as it was an opportunity rather than spend more time and money on studying Medicine and become a doctor). As a good and loving daughter, I agreed to study again. I studied at a local nursing school here in Tarlac but after the first semester, I decided to quit. I was never a quitter! Even if my mom gets disappointed on this, I pondered on this for a long time and my mind was set. The major reason why I did not continue my nursing studies even when I do not have any problems on my grades is that I got so disappointed on the way the teachers/professors there educate their students. Call me idealistic, but what would you do if your subject was 5 hours long that day and the teacher comes in 1 hour late, asks you if you read the assigned topics for that day, have you write notes on the board, and leaves 1 hour early before dismissal? “I should be the one getting paid!” was my reply to my mom when I finally told her I do not want to continue studying nursing anymore. I felt my mom’s disappointment directed at me, but what can I do? I cannot continue studying like this, having her pay my hefty nursing tuition just for “teaching” my other classmates to learn (In addition to that, I was not learning anything useful too). I even told my mom I feel I’m not even cut out being a nurse. In fact, I don’t feel like being one at all.
My mom, ever so understanding, told me one day to try and see what Medical Transcription is. Bewildered, I asked, “What’s medical trans-uhh?” She answered, “Just look at it here on TV.”
On September of 2006, I entered a Medical Transcription training school here in Tarlac. Med trans, if you’re good at it, promises you to land a job in the comfort of your own home. (This is where I first met redfieryheart, the one who shared me wordpress.com, and this is also where I first met my boyfriend and husband-to-be; both of them were also studying medical transcription.)
On April 2007, after graduation, I fortunately landed a Med Trans job in Clarkfield Pampanga and worked there for 1 year and 1 month. (My boyfriend and I were starting to plan our wedding by March 2008 as things were going well for us, him being a call center agent and I being a medical transcriptionist in Clarkfield, Pampanga and we are seeing signs of savings in our bank accounts). Sadly, these things are not to last, because the company I worked for closed after due to managerial disputes, not because of us employees. (By the time I got married, my work was nearing to its end.)
Devastated, my first company to work for in my whole life, ended without even a care to the employees who have strived so hard to keep the company going. I was forced to move back to Tarlac, newly married, and without a job to pay for everyday needs. I’ve been jobless for 6 months.
On November 2008, after posting my resume to different sites online (particularly for MT work), an employer found me and offered me a homebased MT job. Until now, I am still working for that same company. (As you can see, I am a very loyal person given the chance.)
Based on experience, these are the good and bad sides in the life of a stay-at-home worker:
The GOOD
*You can start work even in your pajamas and not even bothering to comb your hair, brush your teeth, or take a bath.
*You can choose your desired work time.
*You can choose how many hours you want to work each day.
*You don’t have to wake up early to get ready for work and not be late.
*You can nap if you want to as long as you finish your job on time.

nap for a bit..need to recharge
*No expenses for commutes or to pay for gas when going to work.
*You don’t have to worry about what you’re going to eat (some people criticize others on their packed lunches).
*You can go to the bathroom anytime.
*You don’t have to buy new clothes for work and other items like bags, colognes, makeup, or shoes for that matter.
*You don’t have to put up with annoying co-workers, especially those who thrive on gossip.
*You don’t have to worry about getting home late and not seeing your parents, spouse, kids, pets, or other members of the family.
*You don’t have to worry about getting robbed, injured, or even killed outside when going to the office or going home from work.
The BAD
*You have no social life.
*You tend to get unhealthy (you get fat) due to sitting all day long in front of the computer while working and eating junk foods or chocolate.

*Sometimes, you don’t get the normal bulk of jobs to do per day; maybe because there are many people working at the same time. In short, salaries vary each day. You may get many today, but maybe none tomorrow.

serious at work, maybe
*You are lucky if your boss pays you twice a month because most prefer paying you once a month.
*You shoulder expenses such as internet connection and electricity.
*Many distractions at home – kids wanting your attention, TV noise, pets wanting your attention too, noisy neighbors or vehicles, etc.
*When you have no electricity or internet connection, consider yourself absent at work.
*No work, no pay.
So, what will you do after college?
If you consider getting a home-based job, these are the things you most likely will encounter. Lucky you if you get a good boss and enjoy the benefits of being at home working to the fullest!
